The pressotherapy trousers replacing leg massages (and why more and more people have them at home)

It started in athletes' locker rooms and is now in living rooms. We explain what it is, what it does and whether it's worth it.

At-home pressotherapy is done in 20- to 30-minute sessions, from the sofa.

If you've seen it on Instagram, that's no coincidence. Pressotherapy has gone from being a sports recovery tool to an everyday wellness product. Here's how it works and what you really notice.

What exactly is pressotherapy?

It is a sequential compression massage. A pair of trousers with several air chambers inflates and deflates in sections, from the feet to the waist, pushing retained fluid toward the lymph nodes. It works on the same principle as the manual lymphatic drainage performed by physiotherapists and aesthetic therapists, with the advantage that the pressure and sequence are always identical.

It isn't a medical treatment and doesn't replace one. What it does—and what users notice—is relieve the feeling of heavy legs, reduce ankle swelling and, with consistent use, improve the appearance of the skin on the thighs and buttocks.

What you need to know before buying

  • Look for several independent air chambers and adjustable pressure; with a single chamber, drainage is not very precise.
  • It’s better if it also covers the buttocks and lower back, not just the leg: that’s where the most fluid accumulates.
  • With a battery, you can wear it anywhere; with a cable, you depend on having an outlet.
  • If you have significant fluid retention, varicose veins, or are pregnant, consult your doctor beforehand.

How long does a session last, and how often should I use it?

Between 20 and 30 minutes. To notice changes, use it for 3–4 sessions per week during the first four weeks; afterward, as needed.

Does it work if I have lipedema or significant fluid retention?

Many users with lipedema use it as a complement to the drainage prescribed by their physiotherapist. In such cases, it’s advisable to consult the healthcare professional treating you beforehand.

Will the size fit me?

The pants adjust to different sizes. If you have any doubts, the customer service team can help you check the fit before buying.

What if I’m not convinced?

You have 30 days to try it at home. If it’s not for you, return it.
