Heavy legs and fluid retention: why more and more women are turning to pressotherapy at home
It’s not about losing weight. It’s about no longer ending the day in pain. We spoke with people who use it every day.

Many women end the day with legs that feel heavy and swollen. What eases that feeling most is consistency: draining often, not one session every now and then. At-home pressotherapy makes this possible without having to depend on a schedule.
What exactly is pressotherapy?
It is a sequential compression massage. Pants with several air chambers inflate and deflate in sections, from the feet up to the waist, pushing retained fluid toward the lymph nodes. It is the same principle as the manual lymphatic drainage performed by physiotherapists and aestheticians, with the advantage that the pressure and sequence are always identical.
It is not a medical treatment and does not replace one. What it does—and what users notice—is relieve the feeling of heavy legs, reduce ankle swelling and, with consistent use, improve the appearance of the skin on the thighs and buttocks.

What you need to know before buying
- Look for several independent air chambers and adjustable pressure; with a single chamber, drainage is not very precise.
- It’s better if it also covers the buttocks and lower-back area, not just the leg: that’s where the most fluid accumulates.
- With a battery, you can put it on anywhere; with a cable, you depend on having an outlet.
- If you have significant fluid retention, varicose veins, or are pregnant, consult your doctor beforehand.
